Secondary Help On The Way

The Browns seemingly have been looking for help in their secondary since the minute CB Daven Holly went down with a torn ACL in mini-camp. They acquired veteran Terry cousins a couple of months ago and Wednesday added another CB by trading for Miami Dolphins CB Travis Daniels.

Daniels was drafted by the Dolphins in the 4th round of the 2005 draft by then head coach Nick Saban. Saban is long gone from Miami and Daniels has fallen out of favor with the new regime.

The Browns, desperate for help at the CB position, did not have the luxury of waiting and seeing if Daniels was released and then cleared waivers to them. The Browns are the 22nd team in the waiver wire order and any CB worth anything would never get to them. Thus the trade was made.

Daniels has a chance to come in and compete right away to play in the Browns nickel package. Until recently the Browns had Cousins and safety Mike Adams competing for the role, but starting safety Brodney Pool suffered a concussion Monday night against the Giants. Adams came in and played very well and may be needed more at safety with Pool's current injury and history of injuries.

The Browns acquired Daniels by trading an undisclosed draft pick to the Dolphins and released CB Mil'von James to make room.
