Notes |
|
1. San
Diego Chargers(11-2) |
- |
They are the cream of the crop, the
best in the NFL. More then likely they will get home field advantage
throughout the playoffs, hopefully Marty Schottenheimer won't screw
it up. |
2.
Chicago
Bears(11-2) |
2 |
They have one of the best defenses
and the best return man in football, they can only hope their
offense doesn't beat them. They have a 2 game cushion in the NFC and
another win and a Saints loss gives them home field advantage in the
playoffs. |
3.
Baltimore
Ravens(10-3) |
3 |
It can be denied no longer, the
Ravens are a very god team and will be a force to reckon with in the
playoffs. They, along with New England and San Diego can win at home
and on the road come playoff time, great defenses give you a chance
to win every game. |
4.
New
Orleans Saints(9-4) |
3 |
How impressive was their win against
the Cowboys?! They have great balance on offense and can outscore
any team, even the Colts and Bengals. Head coach Sean Payton should
be the coach of the year hands down. |
5.
New
England Patriots(9-4) |
3 |
Getting beat on the road is one
thing, but getting shutout is another. They are the beneficiaries of
another slow start by the Dolphins. Next year they may not be so
lucky. They are still a force in the AFC, but they are struggling. |
6. Indianapolis
Colts(10-3) |
3 |
It was only a matter of time before
Jacksonville got the monkey off their back. Sunday they took the
monkey and threw him on the ground and proceeded to walk a mud hole
in him. The Colts poor run defense means another year with no Super
Bowl in Indianapolis. |
7.
Cincinnati
Bengals(8-5) |
2 |
The Bengals are hot at the right
time. Going into Indy this week we look for a lot of fireworks. The
Bengals need to keep winning while the Colts have a two game lead,
guess who we think will win. |
8. Dallas
Cowboys(8-5) |
3 |
Man handled is what they were. At
home against the Saints the Cowboys were flat. The saints had a lot
to do with that, but maybe QB Tony Romo isn't the next Brett Favre
after all. Hell 5 games is all it took for him to get the anointing,
1 is all it took for him to lose it. |
9.
Jacksonville
Jaguars(8-5) |
1 |
The Jaguars finally got past their
nemesis the Colts. If they only would have taken care of the Texans
they would be in a dead heat for the AFC South right now. They are
running the ball at will and playing sound defense, that is a recipe
for playoff success. |
10. Seattle
Seahawks(8-5) |
2 |
How does a first place team go on the
road and lose to a 3 win team with a rookie QB? You'll have to ask
Mike Holmgren that, because that's what his Seahawks did on Sunday
against the Cardinals. Holmgren is now complaining that his team has
to play on Thursday after a short week, boo hoo. |
11. New York
Giants(7-6) |
3 |
They have all the tools to be a tough
playoff team, except mental toughness. They are a yo-yo team, much
like the Jaguars. They could make the playoffs or they could be home
watching them like 20 other teams. |
12.
Atlanta
Falcons(7-6) |
3 |
The Falcons could have packed it in
after losing 4 straight games, but they have rallied and won 2
straight. They must keep winning to make the playoffs and really
control their own destiny with games against the Cowboys, Panthers
and Eagles coming up. |
13. New
York Jets(7-6) |
1 |
The loss at home really hurts, but it
was against a decent division rival in the Bills. This team is
perhaps a year early for the playoffs, but they have been a pleasant
surprise this season. |
14.
Miami
Dolphins(6-7) |
4 |
Wild is what this season has been for
the Dolphins. After starting 1-6 they are 5-1. Too bad they didn't
make the switch to Joey Harrington sooner. As it stands he looks to
be the guy next year in Miami which means Daunte Culpepper could be
looking for a job somewhere new. They are a team no one wants to
play and if they win out could still reach the playoffs, it is a big
if. |
15. Philadelphia
Eagles(7-6) |
1 |
Backup QB Jeff Garcia is giving the
fans in Philly reason to believe. The Eagles are 2-1 with him
starting and very much in the playoff race. Too bad they have to go
on the road to play the Giants and Cowboys the next 2 weeks. Their
season is just about over. |
16. Kansas
City Chiefs(7-6) |
3 |
At 7-4 they looked like they were
headed to the playoffs, but back to back losses top the Browns and
Ravens have them on the outside looking in. They have a must win in
San Diego this week. The Chargers would love nothing more to knock
them out of playoff contention. |
17. Denver
Broncos(7-6) |
6 |
Making the switch to QB Jay Cutler
killed the season for the Broncos, but it could be a great move for
the 2007 season. Broncos fans don't want to hear it, but the
playoffs are not in the cards after starting 7-2. |
18. Tennessee
Titans(6-7) |
1 |
Another what if scenario. If they had
gone to QB Vince Young sooner they might have a real chance at the
playoffs. They have gone 6-2 with Young as the starter and have won
4 straight. |
19. Pittsburgh
Steelers(6-7) |
1 |
Consistency has plagued them all
year, but at home when they are on they are hard to beat. RB Willie
Parker is having a very good year and set a franchise record for
yards rushing in a single game last Thursday against the Browns.
Jerome Who? |
20. Buffalo
Bills(6-7) |
1 |
The Bills are another team on the
rise and for all intent and purpose have done better then many
expected with J.P. Losman as QB and Dick Jauron as head coach. Next
year is a critical year for both. |
21.
Minnesota
Vikings(6-7) |
4 |
They beat the Lions, what else can
you say. They have the best run defense in the league, but still are
a game below .500. It just doesn't make sense. They really need to
take a hard look at who will be their QB in 2007, are guess is it
won't be Brad Johnson. |
22. Carolina
Panthers(6-7) |
5 |
They are all, but done as far as the
playoffs are concerned. QB Jake Delhomme is a question mark and the
defense, for all of it's great individual players, has been far from
great. |
23.
St.
Louis Rams(5-8) |
- |
Special teams killed them on Monday
night. They lost by 15 after having 2 Devin Hester kickoffs returned
for TD's and having an extra point blocked. Scott Linehan has them
moving in the right direction, another year or two and they could be
contending again. |
24.
Green
Bay Packers(5-8) |
4 |
We give them credit, maybe they
should play all their games on the road. Their record is 4-3 on the
road this year. They are at home this week and the Lions are coming
to town, maybe they can snap the home field jinx. |
25. San
Francisco 49ers(5-8) |
1 |
They are a young team with a lot of
talent on offense. The defense will continue to get better and we
see big things for them. RB Frank Gore is having a great year, but
he is fumbling way too much and it cost them on Sunday. Someone
needs to give him the Tiki Barber treatment in the off-season. |
26.
Arizona
Cardinals(4-9) |
3 |
Many people think Dennis Green is out
in Arizona, we don't. This team is playing very well right now and
has not quit on their coach. QB Matt Lienart is 3-5 as a starter and
has won 2 straight. The last 3 games are huge for Green. |
27. Washington
Redskins(4-9) |
- |
Head coach Joe Gibbs decided to kick
a field goal with just over 4 minutes to play instead of going for a
TD. The Eagles got the ball and never gave it back as the Skins fell
21-19. Many think the game has passed Gibbs by, we are inclined to
feel it has as well. |
28.
Cleveland Browns(4-9) |
6 |
In 5 AFC North division games this
year they have been outscored 130-58 and are 0-5. A loss Sunday to
Baltimore will mark the 1st time in franchise history they have
failed to beat a divisional opponent in a season. |
29. Houston
Texans(4-9) |
3 |
The franchise was reminded and will
be for years to come of the mistake it made by not drafting Vince
Young with the 1st overall pick in last years draft. There are
Texans fans right now wondering why the hell they even root for this
team. |
30.
Oakland
Raiders(2-11) |
- |
Solid defense and no offense leads to
inconsistency and losses. The phrase, "There's always next year"
doesn't even apply to this team. They are that bad. |
31. Detroit
Lions(2-11) |
- |
Another woeful performance this past
Sunday included 5 turnovers. The Lions are about to see a new G.M.
in the off-season. What that means for 1st year head coach Rod
Marinelli is anyone's guess. |
32.
Tampa
Bay Buccaneers(3-10) |
- |
It is time for head coach Jon Gruden
to be held accountable. This team has a losing record since
their Super Bowl run in 2002. They also have absolutely no offense
and Gruden is suppose to be an "offensive genius". Someone must have
forgotten to tell him the season started. |
