2006 NFL Power Rankings

Rank(last week)

Movement Notes

1.Chicago Bears(7-0)

- A week off and the San Francisco 49ers can do wonders for your team. 41 first half points, wow! Miami comes to town this week and the Bears are looking at 8-0.
2. Indianapolis Colts(7-0) - It was an impressive win against the Broncos on the road. Perhaps now everyone will realize the broncos defense isn't on par with the Ravens and Bears. New England and the road are ahead and that could spell their 1st loss of 2006.
3. New England Patriots(6-1) 1 Talk about impressive. Going on the road and beating a good Vikings team by 24 points! After they beat the Colts this week they will be at #2.
4. San Diego Chargers(5-2) 2 This team has some issues with their defense right now and the loss of LB Shawn Merriman over the next 4 weeks could really hurt. Offensively they are as balanced as you can be. They are the best the AFC West has to offer right now, a very good AFC West we might add.
5. New York Giants(5-2) 2 The Giants are clearly the 2nd best team in the NFC right now and would give the Bears all they would want and more. This team took early season adversity and turned it into dominant play on the field.
6.Atlanta Falcons(5-2) 2 QB Michael Vick has beaten the Steelers and Bengals in back-to-back weeks, with his arm! They have an opportunity to look past the Lions this week, but good teams don't do that. I guess we will see if they are really a good team this week.
7. Denver Broncos(5-2) 4 When you play against teams who have poor offenses your defense looks all world. When you play against a quality offense you get exposed like the Broncos were. Good news is they scored 31 points, bad news is they gave up 34. The Steelers are not what they once were, but we think they will give the Broncos all they can handle.
8.Baltimore Ravens(5-2) 6 All the Ravens need is 2 weeks to prepare and you can see the results. now we get to see if they can play as well with only 1 week to prepare. They host a Bengals team desperate for a win, should be a great game.
9. New Orleans Saints(5-2) 4 Not a great way to come off your bye week, getting blown out at home. This team is going to have to show it can bounce back from adversity to be taken seriously. The Bucs should have beat them once already and will get another chance Sunday.
10.Jacksonville Jaguars(4-3) 5 A gutsy performance on the road with your backup QB. We have felt all along that David Gerrard gives them the best chance to win, maybe head coach Jack Del Rio is starting to feel the same way.
11.Dallas Cowboys(4-3) 7 Is it us or does QB Tony Romo look like a young Tom Brady? This kid has confidence to burn. The Cowboys scored 25 unanswered points against the Panthers on the road, impressive indeed. The redskins have had a week off and will give them all they want in D.C.
12. St. Louis Rams(4-3) 1 Yes they lost and moved up the rankings. They went on the road and played fairly well against a very good Chargers team. Besides that there are no other 4-3 teams better than them.
13.Kansas City Chiefs(4-3) 4 Sure they beat the Seahawks and their 2nd string QB, but it's the running game that has us beginning to believe in them. They are starting to get RB Larry Johnson on track and that can only lead to better things. Should be a shootout in St. Louis this week.
14. Cincinnati Bengals(4-3) 4 When you have no ability to run the ball or stop the run you end up looking like the Bengals. Balance is the key to their success on both sides of the ball and right now they have none. Looks like .500 is staring them in the face this weekend.
15. Minnesota Vikings(4-3) 6 Embarrassing is what it was. On Monday night football this team laid a huge egg. Leave it to Bill Belicheck to show the rest of the league how to beat what was believed to be a formidable defense. The 49ers have had a week off and the Vikings will be in for a dog fight.
16.Carolina Panthers(4-4) 5 We could almost copy and paste what we said above word for word, except their debacle was on Sunday night. They need a bye to re-asses where they are. Teams no they are a one-trick pony on offense and Steve Smith is going to get even more attention in the 2nd half of the season.
17.Philadelphia Eagles(4-4) 5 This team is finally looking like what most thought they would before the season. Losing 3 in a row is not the way you want to hit your bye week. This bye could save their season.
18.New York Jets(4-4) 2 They have to be concerned about QB Chad Pennington. The Browns totally shut him and the Jets offense down. Their run defense is putrid as well. another team happy the bye week is here.
19.Seattle Seahawks(4-3) - Kudos to QB Seneca Wallace. he showed that the NFL stage is not too big for him. What happened to this defense though? They gave up 35 points after yielding 31 the week before. This team is going to slide even further in our minds. Thank god the Raiders are coming to town.
20.Green Bay Packers(3-4) 5 They have now beaten the Lions, Dolphins and Cardinals with the Bills up next. like we said, who made this schedule? 5 wins is still all we think they will get in 2006.
21. Tennessee Titans(2-5) 6 So they did not win big at home, but they still won. They are the best 2-5 team now in the NFL. they are going to get tested this week in Jacksonville and could very well lose that designation.
22.Cleveland Browns(2-5) 6 This team needed a win desperately and got one. Their defense is really coming on and will give them a chance to win any game. They will get to measure just how far they have come this week in San Diego. Don't be surprised if this game is much closer than anyone thinks it should be.
23. Washington Redskins(2-5) 1 The Cowboys are their biggest rival, but they are banged up at some key positions. Maybe the bye will help, maybe.
24. Tampa Bay Buccaneers(2-5) 3 Well they are 2-2 with QB Bruce Gradkowski, both wins coming at home. They are back home against a team they played just 3 weeks ago in the Saints. That's good news for the Bucs.
25.  Buffalo Bills(2-5) 1 The Packers are coming in town and they are coming off their bye week. They should win this game, that's what scares us.
26. Pittsburgh Steelers(2-5) 6 How do you lose to the Raiders, you turn the ball over 5 times. The defense is off one week and they lose, the offense is off the next week and they lose. this team is inconsistent and the results show it. They could be looking at 2-6 after this week and QB Ben Roethlisberger has got to be looking over his shoulder.
27. Oakland Raiders(2-5) 2 Back-to-back wins at home have them moving up the list. So much for not winning a game. Their defense has played well and if the offense ever catches up they will be a handful for any team. The Seahawks will get their best Monday night.
28. Houston Texans(2-5) 2 Many Texans fans and players were not happy with the benching of QB David Carr in the 2nd half Sunday. We loved it. It will send a message to him that if you continue to play at a level below what the team expects we will not hesitate to sit you down. Maybe the Steelers should take note.
29.San Francisco 49ers(2-5) 6 Sure they played the Bears on the road, but for crying out loud you were coming off your bye week! They will be hosting a Vikings team looking to break out offensively, this one could be high scoring.
30.  Detroit Lions(1-6) 1 They have had a week off to think about where they stand. The offense is getting better, but the defense can't stop anyone. That won't change with the Falcons coming to town. Their best chance is to try and out score their opponents.
31.Miami Dolphins(1-6) 1 They took the week off, really? We've been under that impression all season. The road gets no easier for them as the Bears await. What a disappointment.
32. Arizona Cardinals(1-7) 2 This team is a shambles. They finally got some life from the running game and Edgerin James, but the defense couldn't stop the Packers. They are off this week and now would be the time for a change at head coach.
